In the words of Yo-Yo Ma:  “I believe that during times of stress, confusion, and insecurity, we should share sources that offer comfort, purpose, and meaning. Bach does that. When his music touches us, it reconnects us to our common humanity.”
The Cecilian Chamber Series is presenting a landmark musical event for Regina with the performance of the complete cello suites of Johann Sebastian Bach on December 1, 2018.
The story of Johann Sebastian Bach’s suites for unaccompanied cello is one that spans 300 years.  Composed as cello exercises, the six suites were essentially forgotten until they were discovered by Pablo Casals in the early 20th century.  Casals fell in love with them and proceeded to perform and record all six placing them into the mainstream of the cello repertoire.    They remain an enduring source of fascination, inspiration and consolation for students and professionals alike.
It could be said that if the cello were to write music for itself, it would be the Bach cello suites. They are the ultimate expression of the soul of the cello, given voice by superstars like Yo-Yo Ma and countless other cellists who study, play and cherish them.
We invite you to experience the beauty and deep meaning of these important 17th century works performed by cellist Arnold Choi.   AND we will serve you bratwurst, beer (and wine)  and few other treats as well.  Come take advantage of this unique musical opportunity.
